Be in the present. 

If you are mired in past emotional hurts or the wrongdoings of someone else, acknowledge this and seek a therapeutic setting to communicate what you need or want from him/her, so you can move past your emotional pain.  

This will help ensure that your emotions are not impeding your ability to effectively address your children’s needs and interests.
